She was YES to the very nucleus of her woman
She was my woman of want
She was my woman of want my vowels.

I hope your ladyfriends dislike poetry.
Barbarous,philistine thoughts have you !
Your love-hate relationship with women is not going unnoticed, baby.
Take your pills Wally, and dream, because if you do everything you write, you won't be able to sit on your bike !

How sad that some commenters do not know the exhilaration of lusting after someone else's lust!

It's a lifetime of lust for one woman.

As I had written of her in another poem, "You are the fire I always wanted to play with."

The Anonymous self-righteous prudes would do well to have anyone lovelustlife them for more than a week or two, but a lifetime, a lifetime of desiring this wonderful woman -- now that is extreme. Vive!

Dear Simonwords:
When philosophy turns to pornography, erotic art and sexual practises are in a similar manner. Indeed, it could well be argued that pornography is a genre of art, even if, low art, like you dable in. Remember, woman in general perceive pornography like an act of violence, whether you approuve or not. Amen.

Your poem entitled "To the End of Yes", is not a great poem. It refers to pornography, sex, and anti-feminist written in a brash, trash-talking mode which mirrors pure violence and lacks of humanity. The poem is pit-bull like in its desire and consider wide swaths of pornography, no matter how poor the arguments encountered within your discourse turn out to be.

You should be thankful for having us taking the time to read all the trash you evidently need to write.

It seems that when you write this subject, you dont' have the foggiest idea of what is going on inside women’s minds when it comes to sex.

It does not give a philosophical voice to the average views of the many countless male consumers of pornography either. In general, if pornography is exciting,it opens sexual horizons, but in your case, it is quite marred by a lack of philosophical sophistication, and I am not particularly exaggerating.

It is unfortunate to prefer displaying such an anti-humanist sentiment.

The poetry demonstrates the absurdities involved in trying to give ‘equality-mad’ which glosses to the existence of genetically-rooted male, driving for women who are at ages of maximum fertility.

The words are banalities about causing father-daughter incest, or the like. Finally, a lot of trash, most of it the product of word-processors, and digital cameras. It does seem to me at least remotely possible that paternalist and feminist minded thinkers might be tempted to deal with that sort of trash. It throws men and women into a unisex jacket of ‘the relationship of equality.’ Power equality is often neither particularly sexy nor particularly useful. In making this case, you inoculate us to pornography dribble.
Try again my boy. Foucault did a good job of it.

The Collins English Dictionary defines "vulgar" as "marked by lack of taste, culture, delicacy, manners, etc". A "vulgarian" is a person who has pretensions to good taste.
The dividing line between virtuous and vulgar is self-interest.
ON THE OTHER HAND:
Not only is beauty related to psychological traits, but it is also related to social systems, which are also related to their corresponding psychological traits. Social systems, which are formed according to biases
or lack thereof, can therefore be described in terms of beauty and
vulgarity as well, as well as in specific types of beauty and vulgarity.
IN MY VIEW: Conservatives have a greater preference for forceful vulgarity and formful beauty, whereas liberals have a greater preference for sloppy vulgarity and
subtle beauty. Both factions are in a conspiracy to create the deception that they represent the only social systems in existence, and that there is therefore no such thing as justice.
In social systems, formful beauty
consists of effective methods of problem-solving and efficiency thereof, whereas subtle beauty consists of humane methods and actions that benefit individuals other than one's self. Sloppy vulgarity and forceful vulgarity, correspond to their respective opposites, such that sloppy vulgarity consists of inefficiency and an absence of problem-solving, and forceful vulgarity (LIKE IN YOUR CASE WALLY) consists of rough, brutal methods and selfishness. In order to
understand the beauty and vulgarity of social systems fully one needs to study them.
---- Perhaps you have something to say about this quote:
"Arrogance on the part of the meritorious is even more offensive to us than the arrogance of those without merit: for merit itself is offensive." ( Human, All Too Human ) -- Friedrich Nietzsche

Because you are asking for comments here are mine:
If vulgarity can “reveal secret affinities”, it also marks social
exclusions.
Early in the century Friedrich
Schiller insisted that “the vulgar is everything which does not speak to the mind, and which raises merely a sensuous interest”, thereby associating it with the physical or material as opposed to the mental or intellectual. But by 1875, Sir Arthur Helps could insist that even thinking is vulgar: “[t]here is, I say, a vulgarity of mind which takes a vulgar view of everything presented to it”. Once employed to define language use and class position, “vulgarity” ballooned over the course of the century, taking on widening social implications as it began to
be associated with behavior and the possession of wealth, with different religions
and races, with sexuality, with modern ideas of gender, with objects on display in
homes, with clothing, with ways of thinking and feeling. In other words, vulgarity
became a matter of style, taste, and comportment, a form of behavior whose
definition shifted with fluctuating social boundaries and with the changing and
unspoken rules of its obverse, refinement. As vulgarity became more an abstract quality than a tangible item, its meanings and usages multiplied. The essays
collected in Victorian Vulgarity track the diverse ramifications of vulgarity in four
arenas where the term was most often invoked or inferred: in relation to language,
to changing social spaces, to the emerging middle classes, and to visual art.

Because you succumb to all these delightful temptations, if we make welcome all these gaudy lice instead of squashing them at their first appearance, your work will soon glitter like an Ontarian parvenu, dazzling with parasitic ornament, and vulgar.
For a self-conscious artist, there is a most extraordinary pleasure in knowing exactly what the results of showing off and protesting too much must be and then (in spite of this knowledge, or because of it) proceeding, deliberately and with all the skill at his command, to commit precisely those vulgarities, against which his conscience warns him and which he knows he will afterwards regret ! Repent yourself Wally!

This poet speaks the language of sex/love; they are one in the same as I read him in his words.

I read discrimination against his apparent bohemian nature; We are not the same, none of us.

Who are you to create a diatribe that leaves the mind in a negative state whereas this poet leaves my mind feeling oxygenated.

C'mon, have a little fun; we are all human after all.

Wally Keeler said...

"what I would have given to have had my husband live for most of my life."

Well, well, well, someone who got the poem, who saw a man who desired his woman for a lifetime. And he desired her without innuendo, but with the same lust for her in his senior years that he had in his virile youth.

Wally Keeler said...

"It seems that when you write this subject, you dont' have the foggiest idea of what is going on inside women’s minds when it comes to sex."

Why should I have to know what is going on in a woman's mind every time I put pen to paper? Get over your self that you should assume that a man should think and know everything about what a woman thinks and feels about anything.

Once in a while, a man likes to have his own thoughts all by himself for himself without your mediation.

Your body, your self.
My mind, my self.

When it comes to sex, it is not just about what a woman thinks or feels. Sometimes, just once in a while, a man can think and feel about sex in his own way that is honest to him.

Self-righteous prudish scolds like you have probably inspired a lot of mens' backs.

I love women, but loath feminists. Feminists can shove their 1st stage, 2nd stage, 3rd rate feminist ideologies up the hole in their mediocrity.

Dear Anonymous # 1,

I enjoyed reading your comment about beauty and vulgarity and completely agree with your argument. But, how do you categorize a poem as inefficient or determine the absence of problem-solving in a painting or a song.

Dear Anonymous # 2

You said: "It could well be argued that pornography is a genre of art, even if, low art". this is the first time I have ever heard of 'low art'. Would you please tell us the definition of low art?

Dear Simonwords,
How in the world a poem can work with the genders reversed ? Do you think just by replacing her with him & cunt with cock you can make a poem universal and relevant? Perhaps your pension hasn't arrive yet...

"How in the world a poem can work with the genders reversed ? Do you think just by replacing her with him & cunt with cock you can make a poem universal and relevant?"

Unisex. There are far more similarities (& hilarities) between men and women, than there are differences.

Without intention the poem was written from a male point of view. (This fact alone was enough to spark outrage by Anonymous who claimed to speak on behalf of women.)

One clever wag cut and pasted a gender change. Well lo and behold the poem continued to read sexy and erotic and true.

I believe I do have some ideas of what is going on inside women’s minds when it comes to sex, after all I am a woman. If you could read my accent, I would like to know if you consider me as an anti-feminist who promotes pornography?

And the years go by

he fucked me again

it was all YES,

He mounted the ladder to my womanhood
put the transparent excitement of cocoon in my hand
and honoured my woman the way that nobody ever could
The stranger to my gown is a simple man

I have posted Anonymous' stupid and ill-informed vinditive comments. The stupidness lies in the fact that I can accept criticism only if I agree with it according to Anonymous, or respond to every utterance of Anonyous. Sufficient to know that Anonymous has a petty agenda of personal vindictiveness. Anonymous is also arrogant enough to think that their FREE SPEECH is worthy of comment wherever it arrises. Interestingly, the other responders in this comment section are all women, so let us understand that Anonymous does not in any way speak on behalf of women, even though Anonymous arrogantly asserts that they do. The other responders have no problem with their identity, whereas Anonymous is a fraidy cat, doesn't have the spine to stand up for their views.
PRZT!

By posting Anonymous' ad hominem vindictiveness, I have allowed free speech, not suppressed it. But in Anonymous' case, free speech is stupid speech; sadly it can be read here.

"Such a one (the narcissist - SV) is encased, is he not, in an armor - such an armor! The armor of the crusaders was nothing to it - an armor of arrogance, of pride, of complete self-esteem. This armor, it is in some ways a protection, the arrows, the everyday arrows of life glance off it. But there is this danger; Sometimes a man in armor might not even know he was being attacked. He will be slow to see, slow to hear - slower still to feel."

["Dead Man's Mirror" by Agatha Christie in "Hercule Poirot - The Complete Short Stories", Great Britain, HarperCollins Publishers, 1999]

The irony is that narcissists, who consider themselves worldly, discerning, knowledgeable, shrewd, erudite, and astute - are actually more gullible than the average person. This is because they are fake. Their self is false, their life a confabulation, their reality test gone. They live in a fantasy land all their own in which they are the center of the universe, admired, feared, held in awe, and respected for their omnipotence and omniscience.

Narcissists are prone to magical thinking. They hold themselves immune to the consequences of their actions (or inaction) and, therefore, beyond punishment and the laws of Man. Narcissists are easily persuaded to assume unreasonable risks and expect miracles to happen !

I think poetry is free, free to like, free to dislike. In this case Wally shocked, from readings all your comments. He is not the only one. Not everyone agrees with certain words. It depends on the way you were raised, educated, etc.. in other words it is complex. The most imaginative shocking words are in the War Museum in Ottawa. They preserved the thoughts written by soldiers written on uniforms, canvas, papers etc... it is very taking. In a context of war the word f.. became full of energy. I don't think this is all vindictive Wally. Hang in there. You provoked, now you can sit back and laugh! This is how I would take it.
I admire your work. Take it easy...
Perhaps surrounded in your "personal wars of life" your poem can take another meaning all together. The people who know you are more aware than others.
As far as the comment who does not understand low art, who can he comment if he is so ignorant !

Anonymous said...

There is a lack of useful comments on aesthetics to all the comments. On another blog, we used Wally's poems to discuss moral nihilism, also known as ethical nihilism, and the works of Richard Moll.
We were amused that low art is unknown.

To answer a question: Low culture (art), it is a derogatory term for some forms of popular culture. The term is often encountered in the nature of culture. Its opposite is high culture. It has been said by culture theorists that both high culture and low culture are subcultures.

Kitsch, slapstick, camp, toilet humor, yellow journalism, reality television, escapist fiction, popular music (especially its abbreviation pop) and exploitation films are often cited examples of low culture. It has often been stated that in postmodern times, the boundary between high culture and low culture has blurred. See the 1990s artwork of Jeff Koons for examples of appropriation of low art tropes. Rhys Chatham's musical piece Guitar Trio 1977 is also an example of incorporating (low culture) 'primitive' punk rock esthetics with (high art) contemporary classical music.

Romanticism was one of the first movements to reappraise "low culture", when previously maligned medieval romances started to influence literature.

It is claimed that in simple terms, low culture is another term for popular culture. This means everything in society that has mass appeal. In today's society, this would involve things like 'take-away' meals, gossip magazines, books that are current best sellers and sports such as football and basketball.

AS you know Lowbrow, or lowbrow art, describes an underground visual art movement that arose in the Los Angeles, California, area in the late 1970s. Lowbrow is a widespread populist art movement with origins in the underground comix world, punk music, hot-rod street culture, and other subcultures. It is also often known by the name pop surrealism. Lowbrow art often has a sense of humor - sometimes the humor is gleeful, sometimes impish, and sometimes it's a sarcastic comment.

We comment the aesthetics of Wally's poems between scholars. It is truly interesting. Aesthetics (also spelled æsthetics or esthetics) is a branch of philosophy dealing with the nature of beauty, art, and taste, and with the creation and appreciation of beauty. It defined as the study of sensory or sensori-emotional values, sometimes called judgments of sentiment and taste or "critical reflection on art, culture and nature.

Aesthetics is a subdiscipline of axiology, a branch of philosophy, and is closely associated with the philosophy of art. Aesthetics studies new ways of seeing and of perceiving the world, at our level is worth enjoying. Thank you Mr. Keeler for your poetry. It is fascinating. A thesis could be produced with the help of your work, and I hope to have given some light to some of you.

Wally Keeler said...

After nearly 2 weeks in the bush far north of the 401, I return to find a poem/poet being discussed and analyzed in the comments section by Anonymous. It's interesting, but it's so irrelevant in bringing down to earth the words I blend from the finest inspirations found running wild in the lawless state of the Imagine Nation.

When I read the comments of Anonymous, it reminds me of the contrived preciousness of academic circles and triangles, awfully erudite people bloated with literary knowledge and short-changed with literary talent. Such 3rd rate talents often find themselves in poetry workshops.

The Anonymous failed to put their finger on the pulse of the Poet and his Poetry; I prefer the comment below:

============================================
On March 17, 1969, Dr Alec Lucas, Head of the English Dep't of McGill University, wrote the following remarks in his Introduction to my first book of poetry, Walking On the Greenhouse Roof:

"He writes with gusto and sincerity. His poems are characterized by an intensity that may owe something to the neo-romanticism of the age, but that owe most, directly to Keeler's own experiences in life. Gusto and intensity do not of course make art, but when they are combined, as in his poetry, with an unusual gift for creating images the results are striking."

"Keeler could be called a love poet (although his work covers a wide range of topics), and an impassioned love poet. On the one hand, however, he manages to present love as a part of the ideal without making it namby-pamby or essentially abstract as something to be analyzed into motives and reactions. On the other hand, he succeeds in catching its sensuousness without indulging his poetry in the merely sensual. He sublimates his ardour without dissipating it in naturalistic or psychological detail or in the vague never-never land of romanticism. Neither pornographic nor precious, his poems present human desires as nonetheless divine for being human."

"... sometimes as high-spirited and bawdy-like humour unable to resist the. temptation to have fun at the expense of high seriousness..."

"His humour is neither flippant nor inconsequential. It is part of his whole attitude toward life. It is generally good-natured and lets us know that he recognizes himself for what he is-a young man alive to living, celebrating his experiences-and nothing more. He thus avoids the lugubrious and self-contemplatory that can become tiresome in lyric verse and concomitantly keeps his work free from pretentiousness and didacticism."

"... it is the poet's naivete that seems to give his work much of its distinction. I use the word in no pejorative sense, but simply to indicate one of the over-riding qualities of the verse. If Keeler writes of nature, he writes of it as it seems primarily to have come to him, and not as through the sieve of other nature poets. If he writes of love, lie writes of it as a lover and in terms of all its lights and weathers as he has experienced them and not as a case history of a stage in the process of maturing."

FINALLY

"There is nothing here of a fear of words and of unduly cautious polishing."

"I won't change because it happens in Cobourg."

What does Cobourg have to do with anything, O Spineless One? The use of English in your comments leads me to suspect one of two things: (1) you are a grade 12 Ontario graduate or (2) you write as if English is your second language. I'm leaning to the latter. Yes, don't change just because something happens in Cobourg or anywhere else. Don't change into a verb -- stay a noun all your life. You are to be pitied.

"This is your site, but also a free country.Who want's to identify their names with such an attitude?"

Obviously you are too cowardly to attach your name to your comments, afraid to take ownership of your own words. That is how you treat FREE SPEECH cheaply.

"You are not the only poet in the world."

I never made any such assertion. Based on what I have read of your comments, you have little literary competence. You need all the help that a poetry workshop can provide.

"The poet is an anti-ideologue to the roots of his hair; that is why he is hated and feared."
-- Irving Layton

"University professors look stale and smell stale -- like bread that has been left too long in the bread bin."
-- Irving Layton

Ed. note: Irving Layton is Canada's greatest poet.

Anonymous is right. After all where are the constructive arguments! Nobody is forced to enjoy poetry. English is not a romantic language ! I understand. Anonymous has several points.

Very interesting that when I background check isp etc, I find that 'big tits' is the same as anonymous. How pathetic is that.

This is comment number 49. The system only permits 50. Let's see if the workshopped poet-taster can deliver more than doggerel.
